Where it all started

In 2009 a coach at the grassroots Football Club Sale United realised there was a group of players that the club were not offering football to. These players were the siblings of able bodied players who had a physical disability. Sale United looked into what they could offer these young people and Sale United Power Chair Football Club was born.

Sale United Powerchair football club offers the opportunity of training and ultimately competing in the incredible game of football to children and young people who have a severe physical disability or life limiting illness. It is the only sport where they are able to compete in a powered wheelchair and therefore they would be excluded from all other types of competitive sport.

The club has grown from strength to strength during the thirteen years that it has been running. Initially just starting with a few players who wanted to take part in an inclusive sport, then to more players joining and  wanting to compete in sport, to where we are today with three teams all of whom are playing competitive football.

We have a structured development programme which was devised in consultation with what the players wanted from the club.
